Holiday Spirit in the Neighborhood

Filed under: Marti — marti at 12:04 pm on Sunday, November 27, 2005 (Posted on November 27th, 2005)

Yesterday was a wonderful way to start off the holiday season. I had an event with one of my clients, Surburban Furniture located in Succasunna, NJ. They are committed to doing community service events in the store and yesterday was our third one for the fall. It was a Holiday Family Photo Day. Since Suburban Furniture is a beautiful store decorated for the holidays we had a photographer and Santa there so people could have their pictures taken in front of a beautiful fireplace. It was absolutely free of charge and allowed everyone to walk away with a 4×6 of their kids with or without Santa. We also had a Toys for Tots drive which didn’t bring in too many toys but showed the neighborhood that we were committed to raising toys to make the holidays joyous for kids less fortunate.

Earlier this season we had a Child Safety Day with the Roxbury Police Department making ID cards with digital photos and fingerprints for kids. We also had a Fall Festival where kids came in to pick pumpkins and decorate them. These days are a lot of fun and allow Suburban Furniture to give back to the community. I’m happy to help them make these events happen. We have several additional events planned for the 2006 calendar year and have started a mailing list to keep people up to date with the details.

Check out Suburban Furniture’s website for more information about the store and upcoming events in 2006.

What a nice thing for Suburban Furniture to do…and for you to help them to do! The NY Times Jersey section today had a snippet about the fact that Commerce Bank decided in October to pull out of the Toys for Tots programs. They had been the largest contributor in the state, pulling in more than half of the 20,000 toys collected statewide each year. The bank spokesperson said that they have shifted their focus to having their employees “adopt” needy families. I say, “Feh.” Toys for Tots is such a great program…will be interesting to see if any other news outlets pick this up and whether or not negative publicity leads Commerce to change their policy.
