In a not-too-aggressive time frame, she has a list of 101 things she wanted to get done in 1001 days which for me is May 21, 2010. I too would like to give it a go. The first thing on the list would be to finish the list!

We’ll at least start with a few that I’d like to add to the list:
1- Think of 101 things that I’d like to do
2- Try scuba diving
3- Read all of Jane Austen’s books
4- Finish the afghan in my closet
5- Buy an original piece of art
6- Go to an outdoor movie (drive in or the kind they do in the park)
7- Try speed dating
8- Buy a home
9- Learn to drive a stick shift
10- Run a half marathon
11- Clean out my email inbox

Well, that’s 11 for now. I’ll continue to add more. If you think of anything, let me know!

I would like to publically state (or as widely as this blog is read) that I will dearly miss my friend Erin and hope that this blog is a vehicle that will keep us together so that she can keep us apprised of her adventures below the Mason-Dixon line.

Cheers to Erin for all of the friends and memories that she has in NJ and to all of the good times that lay ahead in DC! We’ll miss you and always love you!

Often I would answer questions about holidays, traditions, manners, etc. This evening marks the beginning of Purim- one of the most festive Jewish holidays. There are two important things I like to note about this holiday. The first is that it is based on the book of Esther. When women look for inspiration in the Bible, they should try Esther- its the story of a pro-active woman who takes fate in her own hands to make things happen. The second note is on the traditional Purim snack of Hamentashen. The name has historical reference, but this treat was best described by a friend as a “Jewish Poptart.” I suppose this summarizes my effectiveness in explaining Judaism to others. Oh well, if not effective, at least my friends get to share the good snack food.

The word is CONFABULATION and it describes so many of my situations…both the schmooze-factor and the fact that sometimes I need to fill in the blanks with more amusing details than might have really happened. It seems to me that she might have been hesitant to say yes before that. I, on the other hand, am thinking that cynicism might be reduced for some from having a Year of No. Maybe people should say “no” to more invitations if they don’t really want to go or “no” to favors that eat up their time and have little benefit. I know people like this….these are the people who give until they have nothing left and risk burn out. They could use some downtime, to be selfish and do whatever it is that they want.

I guess in some way its a Year of Yes. I encourage these people to say yes to nourishing their own souls, to getting sleep when they are tired, and grabbing some alone time when they need it. Say no to the time suckers and doing things because “its the right thing to do!” Say “yes” to you!

Bravo for the creative genius behind pairing Kermit the Frog as a supporter for the environmentally concsious Ford Escape Hybrid. As a huge Muppet fan and someone with an avid interest in owning a hybrid, it doesn’t get any better than this clever commerical for me. Finally, it does get a little easier to be green! I was certified in CPR. There was no real inspiration, but I decided it was good to learn about something that could potentially save someone’s life one day. A planner at heart, I always like to be prepared.

Red Cross LogoI encourage you to be CPR certified. You never know when someone’s heart might depend on you! The American Red Cross certified me and has all the details on classes, etc. I also plan to do the First Aid class next month so stay tuned for all the fun ways I can now save you from disaster. That is, if you trust me!

Of the about 1,070,000,000 hits that you get, the descriptions on the first page contain info on (and I quote):

- Courtney Love
- the love calculator (not sure what that is)
- the website for Love Actually
- a fictional story about a white couple trying to related to black people
- Locks of Love (charity for children who have lost their hair for medical reasons)
- a guide to internet resources on languages
- and finally, three resources on love- one with advice on relationships, one with romantic quotes and poems, and one with a personality test.

On the right side are advertisements for Match.com and how to mail order a bride from Russia…and I thought we were the cynics.
